Gerard Dempsey Visited our club and told the history of Batavia Enterprises, a family firm founded by Gerry's dad and now run by Gerry and his son. The firm tends to buy "tired" buildings, fix them up, and wait for the market to catch up. They own about 50 properties from West Chicago to Rockford, many in St. Charles, Geneva, and of course Batavia. 

Gerry described the progress of the Walgreens proposed for the former Swanson's hardware location. Progress is slow in these matters but things seem to be inching ahead. Walgreens likes Batavia and the location. Gerry thinks the design, landscaping, 10' sidewalks, et cetera make this an attractive plus for our downtown. We'll see what happens!
